IUF Logo"The IUF is the international federation of Food, Farm and Hotel trade unions. We are composed of 375 affiliated organizations in 122 countries representing in excess of 10 million workers. We fully support the initiative of SIPTU to establish the Fair Hotels website promoting unionized hotels in Ireland.

Consumers are increasingly seeking out ethical options when choosing goods and services, including hotel accommodation. The respect of labour rights and decent working is a fundamental to determining whether or not a hotel meets this criteria.

We encourage everyone, whether you are an independent traveler, a tour operator or a corporate client to book with the fair hotels listed on this site, and to encourage other hotels in Ireland to raise standards for workers by negotiating collective bargaining agreements with union representatives."

Ron Oswald, General Secretary, IUF

ICTU logo"The sense of powerlessness and the deep anger against the behaviour of people who have wrecked our economy is palpable.  But we can begin to reclaim the sense decency we all believed was part of our national value system.  The Fair Hotels Campaign is a perfect opportunity for citizens to do something tangible for ethical consumption.  Hotels that treat their staff fairly are entitled to public support.  Those who refuse to recognise that their employees have rights are not.  Congress is delighted to give its full and enthusiastic endorsement to the Fair Hotels Campaign."

David Begg, General Secretary, Irish Congress of Trade Unions

Brendan Barber picture“The TUC is proud to support the Fair Hotels campaign for quality employment in the Irish hotel industry.  As the largest overseas market for the hotel industry in Ireland, we believe that workers in Britain can play a significant role in ensuring that hotels that treat staff fairly benefit from our custom. British workers can be sure that when they book a hotel through the ‘Fair Hotels’ campaign that the staff who will be hosting them have the right to join a union, a right to a union voice on the job  and the right to negotiate decent terms and conditions.

The TUC represents over 6.2 million workers.   Many of these will travel back and forth to Ireland on short breaks, for business, holidays and to visit family. We will do all that we can to ensure that when people travel from Britain to Ireland for business or leisure that they support Fair Hotels.”

Brendan Barber, General Secretary, Trade Union Congress

Peter Gaynor Director Fairtrade Mark Ireland.JPG"We are happy to support this initiative and to use Fair Hotels where possible. The trade unions are important partners in our work for Fairtrade in developing countries. Using Fair Hotels for our visitors from developing countries makes perfect sense. And it doesnt necessarily have to cost us much more either."

Peter Gaynor, Director, Fairtrade Mark Ireland.

“The National Women’s Council of Ireland supports the Fair Hotels initiative and we urge all of our members to use unionized hotels when possible, when holidaying or doing business.  It is not in the interests of those who campaign for social justice to relax or do work in hotels where staff do not have their rights protected by membership of a union.”

Orla O'Connor
National Women's Council of Ireland

“We in IFUT endorse the Fair Hotels campaign and have switched all of our hotel based functions to Fair Hotels.  We have informed both the Fair Hotels and the hotels with whom we no longer do business of our reason for doing so i.e. our ethical purchasing policy which favours employments where employees’ fundamental human right to collective bargaining is recognised."

Mike Jennings, General Secretary, Irish Federation of University Teachers

In hotels, as with any industry, it is essential that positive, proactive measures continue to be taken to ensure that all workers enjoy fair and just treatment and working conditions. As a society we must continue to ensure that the high standards of which we are proud are maintained regardless of the economic environment, and an initiative such as Fair Hotels is an extremely positive reinforcement of this commitment."
